Description

Entris - be quick or be quacked

Entris is an enhanced Tetris clone which I started in September 2010. It has grown quite mature in the meantime, I especially recommend the online playing. Unfortunately, playing online is some sort of a chicken-and-egg problem (unrelated to Python eggs): If noone ever plays online, then new players won't find anyone in the game lobby and leave ... so noone ever plays online.

I'd love to hear your feedback on the game. Please tell me about any problems you've experienced. Since the game was developed under Mac OS, I'm especially curious about Linux/Windows related problems.

For further information see the README.rtf contained in the ZIP file.

Changes

Changed in V1.03: Players can enter a screen name for playing online. Watch your opponents' names fade out as they get knocked out of the game.

To resolve the chicken egg Problem. Make the game start in single Player Mode and switch to Multiplayer when an new player is found. Like it is done in Tetris party for Nintendo Wii.

A .deb package of entriz can be downloaded from dotdeb.com on the Puzzles page.

Great work!
Maybe you should add K_UP to the Rotation-map.
I would like to test the networking, any fellows?

Thanks, Kilon. I guess I didn't develop the single player mode any further since version 1.01 or so, sorry. :) I focussed mainly on the multiplayer mode. You say the speed did not increase? I thought that should happen ... I'll have a look at that.

A bit too easy , its being a long time since I played tetris, but expected the speed to increase slowly over time. However the ducks makes it difficult. The music is abit too boring, but overall a very nice game. No issues here with ubuntu 9.10 here.

I agree the duck sound is great, nasty yet funny.

I like it a lot! I'm running it on Debian and it works perfectly. Great work!

I'm running Kubuntu 10.04 and had no freezes when the duck came out.

@Ivan: Really enjoyed reading your comment, thx. I guess I'll add the feature soon that keeping the key pressed continues moving the piece. The idea of adding other animals is funny, but I think that'll be "too much" in some way.

I love the duck. The sound is so obnoxious that it's funny every time. It also made me lose, which is cool because I don't have to sit and play tetris for an hour. I think you could make a bunch of different big animals with sounds... then you could set 'animal probability' instead of just 'duck probability' and there'd be a frog or whatever. People would keep playing just to see what other animals there are. I would.

Only game suggestion is that you make holding down the key keep moving the piece. You need that to move fast and to slide pieces under another piece.

@Tavin: Thx for the feedback. Don't blame the duck - the problem is the sound that its appearance triggers. I'm not too proficient with sound handling yet ... maybe I ought to release a mute version until I catch up there.

Under Linux (Ubuntu) the game freezes as soon as a duck appears. Music playback is also not working. I guess because of the midi-files
