Version 2.0.0 released! This should fix all bugs I am aware of, seeing as it is a complete rewrite.

Make sure you have PyOpenGL, and I would also recommend using python 2.5. Hardware might also be insufficient. I'd like to use an earth rotating in a future game, but when I run World, I just get this error:
glClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT|GL_DEPTH_BUFFER_BIT)
OpenGL.GL.GLerror: [Errno 1281] invalid value

I'm using python 2.4 on Guadalinex (ubuntu derivative)

Any clues ?

Found a really big texture--something like 86400x43200. Naturally, OpenGL can't handle it. Pygame can't either. I think I don't have enough memory--RAM or video. I have no idea. Apparently, the image would have to be loaded and unloaded in parts.

The ideal solution would be to get high res. satellite photos and bundle them with the thing. Then it could switch to higher and higher resolutions in specific places the closer you are. Anyway, it's just a visualizer, so the zoom functions aren't actually necessary. For anything else -- USE GOOGLE EARTH! Even cutting edge gfx cards can't handle 50000x50000 which would be a minimum for decent res.

It works on my machine, but there is a finite limit to texture sizes, so it may not run.

I wanted a higher resolution, but that was the largest I could find online.

Tried renaming the openGl map first time to get past it but it didnt work then, but I now tried it again and things worked ....
It looks real nice btw.
Were did you get the map ? I am looking for a realistic map but more detailed over Europe.

You have python 2.5, don't you? I really should update that. A magic number happens when a .pyc file is made using a different version of python than the one you have. Unfortunately, I only have OpenGL for 2.4. If you have OpenGL for 2.5, you can delete the OpenGL directory and it should work...
