About

This game is programmed by me and myself alone (since 2007), however I have asked a lot of my friends to help with various parts of the game, like art, story and game concepts, and the game would not have as much potential without them. Please see the credits listing in-game. :)

Changes

The first public release of Ardentryst! Hopefully many of you don't mind the 16MB download size! I've cut it down as much as I can...

Okay, I apologise for the lack of actual playable content in the game (one almost complete tutorial level) but you'll probably get distracted by all the cool effects and calming music that you'll want to play that level again, and again, with different weapons, stats.. ^_^ The main point of this release was the structural demonstration and a little teaser :)

Please comment, rate, critique! Bug-squashing is my first priority. At the moment, there is no specific Windows release (i.e. no EXE.) You'll have to play from source (Get python and pygame.)

I've removed the editing suite from the release to save space (and they're quite bland and user-unfriendly too. However if you still want to tinker with making your own levels, feel free to e-mail me at jordan_trudgett@hotmail.com and I'll set you up a copy.)

All graphics were drawn by me. All music was composed by me. All code was written by me, and all of the story and the levels were designed by me too! O_o

NOTICE

This demo is intended for developers only due to the crudeness of features and all-around game development.

Controls

You can get through the whole thing with your keyboard. However, the game still accepts mouse input: while waiting for input, and on the main menu. You can click to skip the first few screens. Most things can be selected with Return and cancelled with Escape. The arrow keys are used for movement, numeric keypad for actions, you should learn it all in the tutorial. Enjoy!

Developers notice

The code is still in progress! There may be old artifacts or commented out bits and pieces lying around from a long lost time, just ignore them. I don't require any alterations/modifications/additions to the source (and cannot include them in the game) however, I do take into consideration suggestions and bugfixes, and all feedback is genuinely appreciated! Thanks!

A damn impressive project. I wish you wouldn't collapse so many things into your namespaces with star imports, and I wish you would clean up your top level directory so it only had your main file in it, but those are minor minor qualms. I'm going to have to put in some time when I get a chance and play through this thoroughly.

Since the last comment was two years ago, I thought I might liven up this party.
