Description

EGv8 was originally conceived when Nizzity asked EG how many 8 year old kids it would take to bring him down. EG responded that no amount would be enough because he would eat them as he went and would slowly grow in power. He claims that eventually his heartburn would allow him to breath fire and they would fall before him. The game will test the merit of his claims. This is an accurate scientific simulation.

Changes

We've got tons of updates here. Let me run through a list of high-lights. 3 new enemy types, new animations, main menu, configurable options, new TACO! power-up which grants a new attack ability, an inventory system for keeping those power-ups around longer, levels divided up into coherent missions, and probably the most fun, sound effects recorded by Evil Greg himself. Be the first on your block/in your country to try it out. Then all you got to do is become an efficient kid processing plant. Happy eating! Amendment: v0.4.1 includes a bug fix for python version 2.4. Apologies to all those who were affected.

Jeff M, As long as you downloaded v0.4.1 you have the latest source. The other kid types are in later missions. The first mission (Intro) only has basic kids. Starting with the first level of the Beginner mission you will be introduced to new kids.

In the current screenshot it mentions basic/fat/strong kids... in the version I downloaded it doesn't have this. Is the downloadable source out of date in comparison to the other downloads?

Hi, the downloads are working now. weird. It was showing a 404 page before. Maybe it was a temporary error with the host.

Yeey! it works!got a little disapointed when the game ended so quickly, but then I found the other missions! Wohoo!! (This is soo imoral. And I love it)

Thanks for the comments Rene! The links on the webpage work for me and a few friends I asked to test them. Were the links broken or was there a problem with the files? I didn't change anything, so I'm not sure what the issue could be. In any case, I'm glad you were able to get the game from SVN. Saving your selection for the mode/mission is a definite improvement for the next release. I'll take your suggestion about highlighting the keys in the instructions into consideration. Would a standard key configuration menu with descriptions of each action accessible from the pause screen solve this problem sufficiently? Thanks again for playing and for your comments.

btw, it seems to go back to 'intro' every time I lose a game when in one of the other modes. It'd be nice if it kept the previous level I was up to, so I don't have to keep changing back away from intro - every time the eight year olds beat up Greg.

Very Cool game! Note, the download links aren't currently working on the webpage. However the subversion (svn) link is working. On the first tutorial screen it'd be good if you made the keys you need to press a different colour. so they stand out more. I was impatient to kill 8 year olds so missed the keys the first time around. I though the space bar was an attack - that didn't seem to work.

Martin, Thanks for the bug report on version 0.4. I missed the fact that the string method partition() is new to python in version 2.5. I've installed python 2.4, solved the problem, and created a new release (egv8_v0.4.1) to replace the current one. Martin, What version of python/pygame are you using? I just tried to duplicate your bug and was unable to do so. The game ran fine for me.

Patrick: Thanks for the feedback! The levels were kind of tacked onto 0.2 without much concern for balance. We're currently working towards a v0.3 release for Monday July 16 which addresses this issue, among others. Also, Luca is correct (thanks for commenting). For now, the 'K' key spawns a new kid. That should have been in the instructions. Anyway, hopefully this helps alleviate your hunger for destruction. Please check back in about a week for the next release.

Nice idea, but at least the first few levels are painfully slow. Not enough excitement to make me want to keep playing. I wanted to see a million kids on the screen like the screenshot, but it was only spitting out one kid every 10 or so seconds.
