Pacman - 1.1

This is the first large-scale game I've done with python, and Pac-Man was an appropriate candidate as one of my all-time favorites. Mazes (w/ colors) are read from external text files, which are designed to be easily edited (with the Maze Editor), fruit bounces in and out of the passageways, and the ghosts use a variation of the A* pathfinding algorithm to chase pac-man and find their way back to the ghost box. The game is meant to be easily expandable or modifiable. I hope you enjoy it! Feel free to poke around the source (hopefully it's readable enough).


Contains some fixes and documentation, both versions (16x16 tiles and 24x24 tileset)

Hey I love this game! I like the small details, like the changing edge colors, and the extra mazes, which are challenging. I wish there was a dying animation with sound, and that going through the side doors wasn't an instantaneous teleport to the other side. I thought that the points for eating the fruit was too high, especially compared to the point difficulty of eating blue ghosts. I tried running the maze_editor.exe under Wine, but it said it needed MSCOMCTL.OCX, which wasn't in the libraries folder. Are you still updating this fun game?

Hey Andy, your edits are really great! I tried to get it running in Linux once and failed. Thanks!

The 24x24 version seems to run a little bit slower, probably because pac-man has more pixels to cover.. if you change "self.speed = 2" to 3 on line 810, it seems to be as fast as it should. It didn't crash in the time I played through about 8 levels or so (must be an intermittent thing?) I think I've had it crash occasionally before on the 16x16 version, so I doubt it had to do with anything you changed.

Really great Pacman clone. Takes some slicing and dicing to get it running in UNIX, but well worth the effort!
